How to be Politically Active Before 18

01

join an organization

This is one of the most simple ways to be politically active. Doing this can also have a direct impact on politics, given that many organizers work to hold politicians accountable to the demands of the people.

02

Contact your political representative

I contacted my representative, advocating for pending environmental bills, and I was able to have a meeting with his staff about my concerns in his office in Washington D.C. I cannot recommend this enough. It is the most effective way to get your concerns straight into the ears of your representative.

03

sign petitions

If you care about what’s happening in the USA, then signing petitions that align with your beliefs is a great way to get started using your voice. This relatively low-investment action can have major payoff down the line.

04

pre register to vote (if possible)

Maybe you know this phenomenon: you turn up the water temperature while you’re under the shower, but after a while it feels cold again. You turn it up, and up and up. Yet, this works the other way around too. When you switch the water just a tiny bit colder every once in a while you get used to the colder water. In the very end the water will eventually get too cold and you’ll get out of the shower. Win-win!
